A Rocket Money alternative that doesn't touch your bank

Last updated: August 2026

Rocket Money is a capable app. Most people who go looking for an alternative aren't unhappy with the product — they're unhappy with the trade it asks for. It connects to your bank through Plaid, which means granting read access to your transaction history so it can find your subscriptions automatically. It's also US-only, which rules it out entirely for most of the world.

If either of those is your reason for looking, this page lays out what your options actually are, including where they're weaker than Rocket Money.

The honest trade-off, up front

Every alternative that doesn't link your bank has the same limitation: it can't discover subscriptions you've forgotten about. That's the exact thing bank access buys. A manual tracker only knows what you tell it.

In practice this matters less than it sounds, because the one-off job of reading a statement and typing in what you find takes about ten minutes — and you only do it once. But if you want a tool that finds things without you looking, you want bank linking, and you should use Rocket Money or something like it.

Where GhostBill fits

GhostBill is the one that runs in a browser. There's no app to install, so it works on a work laptop, a phone, a tablet, or a machine you don't control. Everything stays in that browser's local storage — there is no server to send it to, and no account to create.

It's $19 once for Pro rather than a yearly fee, and there's a free tier that tracks up to six subscriptions, which is enough to find out whether the habit sticks before you pay anything. It works anywhere, not just the US.

What it won't do: find subscriptions for you, cancel anything on your behalf, or sync between devices. Those are real gaps and worth knowing before you start.
